Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 March 2026

Overview

WearScore (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a clothing quality scanner for iOS. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.

The short version: label scanning happens entirely on your device. We collect minimal data, we don’t track you, and we never sell your information.

1. Data That Stays on Your Device

The following data is processed and stored exclusively on your iPhone and is never transmitted to our servers:

  • Camera images and photos— When you scan a clothing label, the image is processed using Apple’s Vision framework directly on your device. Photos are never uploaded to any server.
  • OCR text extraction — Fiber composition text is read from labels using on-device optical character recognition.
  • Quality scoring — All grade calculations (A–F scores, pilling risk, breathability, care complexity, lifespan estimates) run locally on your device.
  • App preferences — Theme settings, onboarding state, and scan counts are stored in local device storage.

2. Data We Collect When You Sign In

If you choose to sign in with Apple, we collect and store the following in our cloud database (hosted by Supabase):

Account information

  • Your name (as provided by Apple on first sign-in)
  • Your email address (may be a private relay address if you choose “Hide My Email”)
  • A unique user ID (UUID)

Scan records

When signed in, your scan results are synced to the cloud so you can access them across sessions. Each scan record includes:

  • Quality score, grade, and fiber composition
  • Brand name and clothing type
  • Care properties (pilling risk, breathability, care complexity, longevity)
  • Whether the item is saved to your wardrobe
  • Garment photo (if you choose to add one, stored as JPEG, max 5 MB)
  • Scan timestamp

Profile data

  • Monthly scan count (used to enforce free tier limits)
  • Account creation date

3. Data We Do Not Collect

  • We do not use analytics or crash reporting SDKs
  • We do not collect device identifiers (IDFA) or use App Tracking Transparency
  • We do not use cookies or web tracking
  • We do not collect location data
  • We do not access your contacts, calendar, or any data beyond camera and photo library

4. How We Use Your Data

Data we collect is used solely to:

  • Sync your scan history and wardrobe across sessions
  • Enforce free tier scan limits (5 scans per month)
  • Manage your subscription status
  • Provide the brand directory (aggregated, non-personal data)

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or marketing purposes.

5. Third-Party Services

WearScore uses the following third-party services:

Supabase

Our cloud database and authentication provider. Stores your account information, scan records, and garment photos. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. See Supabase’s privacy policy.

RevenueCat

Manages in-app subscriptions and purchases. RevenueCat receives your subscription status and purchase history only — no scan data, photos, or personal wardrobe information is shared with RevenueCat. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy.

Apple

Handles authentication (Sign in with Apple) and processes App Store purchases. Subject to Apple’s privacy policy.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for their marketing or advertising purposes. We do not share data with analytics companies, advertising networks, data brokers, or social media platforms.

The brand directory contains aggregated quality data derived from scans. This data is anonymous and cannot be traced back to individual users.

7. Data Security

We protect your data through:

  • On-device processing for all label scanning (no images sent to servers)
  • HTTPS/TLS encryption for all cloud communication
  • OAuth 2.0 authentication via Apple
  • Row-level security at the database level (you can only access your own data)
  • UUID-based identifiers (no usernames or emails used as keys)

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Your controls

  • Delete individual scans at any time from within the app
  • Remove garment photos from any scan record
  • Sign out to clear your local session

Account deletion

You can delete your account entirely through your Apple ID settings (Settings > Apple ID > Sign-In & Security > Apps Using Your Apple ID > WearScore). This permanently deletes all associated data including your profile, all scan records, and all garment photos from our servers.

Automatic retention

Monthly scan counts reset at the beginning of each calendar month. We do not automatically delete inactive accounts.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights:

  • Access — All your scan records and wardrobe data are visible within the app at any time.
  • Deletion — Delete individual records in-app or your entire account via Apple ID settings.
  • Portability — Your scan data is stored in structured format and accessible through the app.
  • Objection — You can use the app without signing in, which limits data collection to on-device only.

10. Children’s Privacy

WearScore is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
